Nutritional Supplements
Recent studies have revealed that the human immune system has adapted as a result of facing constant challenges, responding to attack by up-regulating its state of readiness and effectiveness on a continuous basis.
In today’s sanitised environment however, our immune systems have relatively little to contend with. This can make them less efficient. The efficiency of our immune system can also be influenced by our diet, stress, any medication we may take and our lifestyle.

show beta-glucan
is TOP!
This fascinating 'Information is Beautiful'
site ranks all the major Vitamins, Herbs and Minerals in order of the
the amount of proper evidence behind them - most at the top and least
at the bottom.
This research is then classified for each supplement in relation to the things it helps with. Beta-Glucan is on the top left in relation to anti-viral, cancer and general health
Glucanume and Glucasan+ are made from highly refined beta-glucan 1-3,1-6, recognised as the finest immuno-modulator available.
Only the highest quality standardised extract of Beta Glucan 1-3,1-6 is used in Glucasan®+ and Glucamune where the beta-glucans are specially purified. They have no known side effects, are non-allergenic and are Clinically Tested.

Are there other things to naturally support my immune system?
Aloe vera, Echinacea, shiitake and meitake mushrooms and other natural materials have been shown to provide immune system support. In some cases, the active molecules are similar to the 1-3, 1-6 beta glucans in Saccharomyces cerevisiase; but they are not as well researched, and not necessarily as supportive, most particularly because there are no established efficacy standards for them. Here are some examples:
Glucasan® and Glucamune versus current Supplements:
|
Vs Echinacea |
Echinacea - found to be ineffective protecting against respiratory tract infections such as coughs and colds (Grimm & Muller '99, Barrett et al 02, Kreutzfeld '06); ineffective or not proven (Caruso & Gwaltney '05, Carr & Nahata '06, Linde et al '06). |
|
Vs Aloe Vera |
Aloe Vera - may kill immune cells (Ramamoorthy & Tizard '98). Ineffective against viruses (Unsinger ‘97) |
|
Vs Pro biotics |
Pro biotics - efficacy only against gastrointestinal infections |
|
Vs Goldenseal |
Goldenseal - no in vivo evidence. Linked to potentially fatal adverse effects (Bhowmick et al ‘07) |
|
Vs Cat's Claw |
Cats Claw - interesting anti-inflammatory properties (ie Mur et al '02), but no in vivo evidence of immune activity |
|
Vs Antioxidants |
Antioxidants - may even be harmful (Bjelakovic & Gluud ‘07) |
Why is Glucasan+ so expensive when yeast is so cheap?
1-3, 1-6 beta
glucans need to be very carefully refined, for two critical reasons.
First, the material must be purified and the particle size must be
carefully controlled, to enhance bioavailability and to achieve
maximal absorption. (Beta Glucan particles need to be less than 20µ
to be maximally effective). Second, the receptors that trigger the
immune system are fragile and cannot be damaged during a series very
carefully controlled purification processes.

setting up my own business and hadn’t had a holiday for two years. My
energy was rock-bottom and I was getting colds and sore throats all the
time.
A nutrition expert told me about these tablets, and they've made
the world of difference, I totally believe in these, they’ve
kept me going."
More than 1,500 scientific papers have investigated the roles, safety and efficacy of beta glucan for more than 40 years - "beta-1,6-glucan with beta-1,3 side chains shows remarkable immune-enhancing activities".

Beta- Glucan 1-3, 1-6 is derived from the cell walls of the 'friendly fungus', baker's yeast. It supports the innate immune system by exercising it, making our defences more alert to invading viruses and bacteria.
